A Truly Great College Sports Trivia Question
Years ago, I encountered one of the world's greatest sports trivia questions... and I've used it to shut the mouths of even the most egotistical of "sports braggards" I've come across since then, and now I feel that the time has come for me to share it with you.
There's quite a few... currently, 68 schools share this distinction (NOT including the 3 schools that USED to belong on this list). There are 27 in D-I, 10 in D-II, and 31 in D-III (including five D-III women-only schools).
For this question, precision is VERY important! For example, Georgia Tech fans often refer to their team as "The Rambling Wreck," and Auburn fans use "War Eagle" as their battle cry, but these are NOT their OFFICIAL nicknames (as recognized by the NCAA).
Furthermore, I'm sure there are myriad other schools with mascots & nicknames that don't end in 's'... but are they an NCAA member institution in Division I, II or III?
The following table features a list of the current NCAA institutions whose OFFICIAL nicknames do not end with the letter 's'... as of September 1, 2006.
And just in case you doubt any of these, I've included a link to each school's varsity athletics website... just click on the school's logo to prove it to yourself.
